Mike and Laura's Personal Page

Aside from alpacas and fiber, Mike and Laura would like to share their interest in bicycles and alternative energy resources.  We hope to add to this page as we find new options and make progress in our own applications of alternative energy.  For now, we have highlighted two major areas where we feel we've made a difference in conserving non-renewable energy resources.

 Acquired in February 2003, "Vin" is Mike's pride and joy.  This VW Golf TDI gets an average of 56 miles to the diesel gallon.  It is also completely convertible to biodiesel fuel, though we haven't converted it yet.

Closer look at the Currie Drive

 Laura's latest acquisition (July 2004) is "Carrie", an electric power assist motor to upgrade her old touring bicycle.  It allows her to power up hills and on flats at as much as 18 miles per hour.  It has a range of about 20 miles per battery charge and can be pedaled normally if the battery runs out.  Not only is it perfect for her local errands, but it's fun and good exercise as well.
